Is Missguided Ethical? 4 Sustainable Alternatives

If you love the trendy looks Missguided stocks, but are hoping to find them made by a more ethical, sustainable brand, this list of alternatives to Missguided is just what you need!

Here are a few of our favorite DoneGood Approved brands that make clothes similar to the ones you might find at Missguided, but in a way that’s much friendlier to workers, animals, and the earth!

Passion Lilie

Passion Lilie has tons of great styles for women that are youthful, trendy, and best of all, ethical!

They’re a fair trade and eco-friendly brand that works to empower artisans wherever they may be in the world and provide dignified employment opportunities. This includes fair wages, healthy and safe working conditions, and long-term employment that helps to reverse the cycle of poverty.

Passion Lilie also uses eco-friendly materials throughout its supply chain, and they strive to use organic, non-GMO, pesticide-free materials whenever possible.

While the apparel and accessories are actually manufactured in India, each of the designs comes from New Orleans, Louisiana, out of the mind of the brand’s founder, Katie Schmidt. There’s plenty of inspiration in that town for the unique, colorful designs that Passion Lilie puts out each season!

MATTER is another great brand for cute clothes you can buy with a clean conscience.

And though their designs have a distinctly modern feel to them, many of the techniques that they use are actually steeped in tradition.

MATTER as a brand is actually very heavily inspired by tradition. Their mission is to take traditional textiles, with all their heritage, and reinterpret them into prints that tell the story of both where and why they are made.

They accomplish this by fostering designer-artisan collaborations, inspiring their customers to value the provenance and unique process that’s used to make each item, and by pioneering small industry changes in rural textile communities that preserve the history of the art while making it more sustainable in the long run.

Looking at their designs, you might never realize that each print is based on an existing heritage motif that has a cultural significance and story all its own. Over the 6 month design process, each motif is turned into a lovely, somewhat modernized print that’s completely recognizable, yet still totally at home in your closet.

Symbology is on a mission to make fair trade sexy, and so far they’re doing a great job.

Like MATTER, Symbology also takes design inspiration from artisanal fabric techniques and transforms them into fashion forward clothing pieces.

They use old school processes to make their fabrics, like block printing, which involves carving out a design on a wood block and using that as a stamp to apply each color to the fabric.

You can see some of their fabrics being made in the video below. The process is very satisfying to watch!

Each piece of Symbology clothing is handmade by women artisans in developing countries. By providing a fair wage to execute these traditional techniques, Symbology offers a path out of poverty for many who work for them.

Elegantees is an ethical clothing brand that is working to free women and girls from sex trafficking and to help them restore their lives afterward.

One of the main ways that they do this work is by intercepting probable victims of human trafficking as they are crossing the border between Nepal and India.

Workers boldly approach those who they suspect to be victims of human trafficking, talk with them, and get them to a safe place before any more harm can come to them.

By shopping with Elegantees, you are supporting this important work, and much more.

Plus, the clothes that they make are just really cute. So it’s a definite win-win.

They stock many different designs for men, women, and kids, in all sorts of colors and prints. They even offer free returns and size swaps for all orders placed within the US, so you never have to worry about misreading the sizing guide! This generous return policy also makes Elegantees a great choice for gifting.
