About the Author(s)

Jean-Martin Fortier, an advocate for human-scale agriculture, has led a successful 2-acre microfarm for over 20 years, feeding hundreds of families. Known globally for his biointensive farming methods, Fortier also founded the Market Gardener Institute and Growers & Co. to further support small-scale growers. He lives and farms in Quebec, Canada.

Catherine Sylvestre is the director of vegetable production at la Ferme des Quatre-Temps, focusing on regenerative agriculture. Leading the market garden team, she trains participants and specializes in crop protection and greenhouse growing for cold climates. A technical advisor at the Market Gardener Institute, Catherine has a BSc in Ecological Agriculture and a Master’s in Political Science, studying the human-nature relationship in agriculture. Her goal is to empower farmers and gardeners with the knowledge to achieve successful winter harvests. She lives in Quebec, Canada.
