Privacy Policy

DoneGood’s whole thing is helping you find companies doing good in the world—so we work really hard to make sure we’re one of those good companies ourselves. That means empowering workers, paying living wages, and preserving the environment, of course. But it also includes transparency and taking the privacy of individuals and businesses in the DoneGood community very seriously, and making sure you remain in control of your own information at all times.

Our privacy policy is below. We’ve tried to ensure it clearly states and protects your privacy rights. And we’ve even tried to write it in plain English so non-lawyers can understand it! Please contact us at if you ever have any questions about this privacy policy or any ideas for how we can make it better.

Thank you!  -The DoneGood Team

This privacy policy discloses the privacy practices for the DoneGood® website (, mobile app and browser extension.

This policy will notify you of the following:

  • What choices are available to you regarding the use and public display of your data.
  • The security procedures in place to protect the misuse of your information.
  • How you can correct any inaccuracies in the information.
  • What information is transmitted from you in using the app, website, and browser extension, how it is used and with whom it may and may not be shared.

This policy only applies to information provided through:

  • The DoneGood app, website and browser extension
  • In E-mail or other electronic messages between you and DoneGood

This policy does not apply to information collected offline or through other means, including on any other website or application operated by any third party (including any businesses listed on DoneGood, DoneGood affiliates, partner organizations, advertisers, non-profit organizations or any other websites accessed through the DoneGood app, website or browser extension).

Information Collection, Use, and Sharing

The important stuff:

We do NOT sell your contact information (such as your name, phone number, and email address) to anyone without your consent.

We will not share personally identifiable information with third parties outside of our organization, other than as necessary to fulfill a purchase order, request or inquiry from you, or to allow functionality of integrated site applications that enhance the DoneGood site, its shopping experience, or other operations.

Like most e-commerce sites, we see purchases you make through DoneGood associated with your email address. We may use your purchasing history and personal information to improve and personalize your experience, better match the selection of products we offer to the type of products you and other DoneGood users prefer, otherwise improve the DoneGood platform, serve you to the best of our ability and/or to respond to you regarding a reason you have contacted us.

We also collect aggregate data on the overall usage of the DoneGood app, website and browser extension (for example, total clicks on particular features of the site, extension or app, or total clicks on a particular DoneGood-approved company, overall dollars diverted from Big Box Corps to brands that are making the world better, etc.) to demonstrate the impact the DoneGood community as a whole is making, and to help us learn what our user community may like most or not like very much about our products so we can make them better. So for example, we may see that in a given week 122 DoneGood browser extension users went to a particular big-name company website but then clicked over to a particular DoneGood-approved company website instead (hell yeah!).

Like many sites these days, we also collect aggregate, anonymized data through Google Analytics on overall website and extension usage including things like which business categories, features, and buttons on our app, extension and website are being clicked on, and what search terms are being searched for on our website (again this data is not collected in a way that can identify you individually) so we can continue to improve our products and make sure we are adapting to the preferences of our user community. We also see data on our overall user community’s basic demographic information (such as age and gender).

And we may collect data on search terms executed on Amazon, as well as on Google only if the Google search triggers Google shopping suggestions (in other words, we don’t see or collect data on Google searches and search results not related to online shopping). This helps us continue to improve our algorithms so that when users execute shopping-related searches the DoneGood extension provides the most accurate and relevant suggestions for alternative socially responsible companies that have what users are searching for. Again, this data is not personally identifiable so searches executed cannot be connected to an individual user.

Unless you ask us not to, we may contact you via email or other channels in the future to tell you about upcoming events and activities, discounts at businesses, new products or services, or other matters. We hope these messages are useful and interesting, and even fun! However, you may opt out of any future contact from us at any time.

Your Access to and Control Over Information

You can always unsubscribe from future emails or other communications from us by contacting us at or through other email addresses or links provided on our app, website, browser extension or in email communications.

Please also contact us at if you would like to:

  • See what data we have about you
  • Change/update any data we have about you
  • Ask us to delete any data we have about you
  • Express any concern you have about the use of your data or our privacy policy

In order to use all features of the DoneGood app, website, and browser extension a user may need to sign-in to DoneGood. The features that require registration are only those that are specific to each user and therefore necessarily must have a personal sign in, such as a personal profile page, ratings of businesses (we require sign-in to rate businesses because we don’t want anonymous business ratings, as they tend to be less helpful and less accurate, and are more likely to be spam, be vulgar, or otherwise not be useful ratings) and earning discounts (we need to know it’s you that got the discount you may have earned). During registration, a user is required to give certain information (such as name and email address), or register through a social media site such as Facebook. Third-party social media platforms such as Facebook require different and specific information when you login through their platform. Though we specify clearly what information is being used from your social media profiles, the privacy policies of the third party governs the specific data transactions in those instances. The information provided during registration may be used to contact you. Again, you can always opt out of any contact by emailing

We take security seriously and work hard to protect your information. However, please be aware that no security measures are perfect or impenetrable. By using the DoneGood app, website or browser extension you acknowledge that online activity inherently puts individuals at risk of hackers and other security breaches, and you agree that you are using our services at your own risk.

Only employees who need your information to perform a specific job (for example, customer service or data management) will be granted access to personally identifiable information. All other staff members can only access your data in an anonymized internal format (for example, your passwords and private login information are internally encrypted so as to assure maximum privacy).

If you become aware that a child has provided us with personal information without parental consent, please contact us at If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information without parental consent, we will take steps to remove such information and terminate the child’s account.

The DoneGood app, website and browser extension contain links to other websites, and we make third party sites viewable within our app. Please be aware that we are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of those or any other sites. We encourage you to be aware when you are viewing another website or when you click a link to leave our app, website or browser extension and to read the privacy statements of any other sites you may visit. The inclusion of any link or site on the DoneGood app or website does not imply DoneGood’s endorsement of the site, its security, or its privacy policy.

Because some information on our mobile and web platforms is provided by Google Places, our website allows access to Google Maps, and because the browser extension operates on Chrome, by using our app, website, or browser extension, you are also bound by Google’s Terms of Service and Google's Privacy Policy (although y’know, if you use the Internet, you probably already agreed to these terms and privacy policy—but we still have to advise you to read them!).

We may share or sell aggregated app, website and browser extension usage information (including but not limited to overall app and web traffic volumes and other data, data on features and resources accessed through the app, website, and browser extension, websites visited while using the extension, app and website, that are related to DoneGood usage, etc); information about your computer or phone devices, internet connection, operating system or browser type; and/or aggregated demographic information (based on meta data) with our partner organizations, advertisers or others. This information is not linked to any personal information that can identify you or any individual person by name.

Other provisions in this Privacy Policy notwithstanding, an entity buying or otherwise acquiring the DoneGood company or some or all of its assets, or another form of successor in the event of a merger, divestiture, restructuring, reorganization, dissolution or other sale or transfer of some or all of DoneGood’s assets, whether as a going concern or as part of bankruptcy, liquidation or similar proceeding, may acquire personal information collected by or provided to DoneGood as described in this privacy policy.

The DoneGood app, website and browser extension cookies, a piece of data stored on a user’s hard drive to help us improve your access to and experience on our site and identify repeat visitors to our site. For instance, when we use a cookie to identify you as someone who has used the app or website before, you would not have to see the onboarding screens, pop-up tutorials, and other features directed to first-time users. Cookies can also enable us to track and target the interests of our users to enhance the experience on the app, website or browser extension. And because we earn a small commission on sales from the ethical brands we feature when a DoneGood user chooses to shop with the company, we need to use cookies to help track that sale.

Usage of a cookie on our site is not linked to any personally identifiable information. It may be possible to disable some (but possibly not all) cookies through your device or browser settings. Doing so may affect some of the functionality of the app, website or browser extension, and, may prevent DoneGood from earning a commission on your purchase from one of our partner companies (which hurts our ability to remain in business, and continue offering our service to all DoneGood users for free). The method for disabling cookies may vary by device and browser, but can usually be found in preferences or settings menus.
