How I'm Avoiding Giving My Money to Billionaires This Holiday Season

Hi, I'm Daley and I don't want to give my money to billionaires.

My goal this holiday season is to start my shopping early so I can give thoughtful and ethical gifts to my friends and family. If I leave my shopping until the last minute, I know I’ll end up scrambling and making a last-minute purchase on Amazon or at a big box store, when I’d really rather give my money to small businesses that are supporting causes I care about.

Listen, not spending my $60 on Amazon isn’t going to make a difference to their bottom line, but spending that same amount with a small, sustainable brand can actually make a difference – for the brand and the causes and communities they support.

That's why I’m glad marketplaces like DoneGood exist. (Okay, I know it sounds a bit biased since I work here, but I’m here because I truly believe in the impact this company is making.) Shopping on DoneGood takes away all the guesswork—I don’t have to wonder if my money is lining a billionaire's pocket or if the toy I’m buying is safe for my nephew to chew on. That peace of mind means a lot to me, and I want to help people like you support brands that are doing good things.

These are a few gifts I’m giving my friends and family this year

This Throw Blanket is Everything

Okay, i’m pretty obsessed with this GameDay Endzone Blanket by Newly. Not only is it super cute, but it's also made from 51% recycled cotton and 12 water bottles worth of plastic! I love seeing plastic bottles being put to a good use. Plus, Newly is a B Corp which means they've met some super strict guidelines ensuring they're using business for good AND they're part of 1% For The Planet so they make a donation for every purchase!

These are More Than Just a Cute Pair of Socks

Conscious Step socks are my go-to gifts year-round. Every pair gives back to an awesome cause, from donating to an animal shelter, providing access to clean water, or the pair I'm choosing: Socks That Provide Meals.  Each pair of these cuties supports World Central Kitchen which helps provide millions of people with food during natural disasters and other crises. Plus, each pair is made with Fairtrade organic cotton. Trust me, they're cozy!

Supporting Conscious Step not only directly gives back with each order, it also allows this awesome brand to continue to connect others with world-changing nonprofits, making it easier to make an impact.

Delicious Herbal Tea Makes The Perfect Gift for Just About Anyone

I'm a huge fan of a nice hot mug of tea, but not all teas are made equal. This brand, Alaya Tea sources from small, ethical farms, and are free from additives. This 2-pack comes with two delish flavors: Hibiscus Flowers and Sweet Fennel + Mint. And possibly my favorite part about this tea is that this packaging is fully compostable!

Supporting Alaya Tea puts my money in the hands of a women-owned company that respects the communities they work in and addresses the environmental challenges we face through agriculture.

We All Have A Friend Who Would Love These Earrings

Okay I might have to buy a pair for myself while I'm at it...

Not only are these Cosmic Drop Earrings super cute, they also give back in an amazing way. The brand, Fair Anita was founded by a women named Joy who started this company after learning that financial insecurity is the leading reason women stay in abusive situations. Today, the organization partners with over 8,000 women worldwide to create artisan jewelry and promote economic independence and empowerment. That means every order helps women - YAY!

I doubt I would have discovered brands like Alaya Tea, Conscious Step, or Newly, or Fair Anita if it weren't for DoneGood. I was able to click through the site and know that no matter what I chose, I would be giving my money to brands that are using it for good
