Organic, fair trade, sustainably-sourced Italian Hemstitch sheets and pillow cases from Under the Canopy

There are a lot of reasons to look for organic sheets, especially if you have skin allergies or sensitive skin (or just prefer not to lay in toxins every night):

1. Way better for you and your skin
Holy cow, do you know what comes in some non-organic bedsheets?? Chemicals like AZO dyes, Alidicarb, Parathion, and--formaldehyde(!) Blech. These chemicals can cause skin irritation, and formaldehyde is a carcinogen linked to respiratory problems and lung cancer.
We spend about a third of our lives in our beds. Naturally hypoallergenic, organic bed sheets mean we're not spending all that time laying in toxins and provide the peace of mind of an all natural sleep.
2. Better for the planet
25% of all the pesticides used worldwide are used to grow cotton! That creates a lot of chemical runoff in our waterways. Organic cotton cuts out the use of these pesticides and also takes significantly less water to grow.
Sustainably-sourced bamboo is very soft, and soft on the environment. It's naturally pest-resistant so doesn't need pesticides, it easily regrows after harvesting without the need to replant, and requires very little water (be discerning though, as some bamboo products are not-so-sustainably sourcedyou can take a deeper dive on the environmental benefits of various eco-friendly products. All the bamboo products listed below are highly sustainable).
3. Better for other people
By now you’re probably all-too aware of how many products that wind up in our stores rely on global supply that keep people locked in poverty, working long hours in unsafe conditions, and/or may rely on trafficked or child labor.
Ethically-made products ensure that the people making them are paid well and work in safe conditions. To help ensure products are made ethically, look for fair trade or GOTS certified organic products, or shop on a trusted site that vets brands for social and environmental impact (oh y’know, like DoneGood… the website you’re on right now 😉).
So there are plenty of reasons to get organic sheets made in a natural, sustainable way.  And there are some really great brands making them—and making them really high-quality,  yet reasonably affordable too.
Here’s a profile of the best we’ve found.
100% organic, hypoallergenic sheets made of ecofriendly bamboo lyocell - Available on donegood.co

ettitude’s lyocell is so soft they call it "vegan silk" and it naturally gets softer with every wash.  It’s completely hypoallergenic. It’s also naturally thermo-regulating, so it helps keep you cool in summer and warm in winter.

Under the Canopy

Under the Canopy has always been one of the most popular DoneGood-approved brands.  That’s because they just kinda have it all—really great sheets, a strong commitment to sustainability, and, they’re able to keep their sheets really cost-competitive, even compared to less ethically-made varieties.

Like others on this list, Under the Canopy products are fair trade and GOTS certified.  But not only that, Under the Canopy’s founder actually helped develop the GOTS certification standard in the first place!  So that shows you how deeply committed they are to sustainable production—they’re pioneers who've been doing it since before it was cool.

The fabric is ridiculously soft. Eucalyptus is cultivated using 10x less water than traditional processes. And their sheets are milled in a zero-footprint, Oeko-tex certified production facility (meaning products made there are independently certified to be hypoallergenic and free of harmful chemicals).

And on top of that, 10% of every Eucalypso purchase supports wildlife conservation efforts.

Shoo-Foo

“Shoo-Foo” is the Americanized version of a Chinese word that means comfortable, pleasant, calm and healthy.  The company’s founder is a professional ecologist who lived for 10 years in China.  While there she got to know the bamboo industry intimately and uses that knowledge to ensure the bamboo material that goes into Shoo-Foo sheets is high-quality and highly sustainable.

Shoo-Foo not only makes super soft bamboo sheets, they also make flannel sheets from organic cotton.  So if you’re looking for a little warmer winter-time or outdoor variety, Shoo-Foo might be a good bet.

Delilah home’s sheets are more on the luxurious end of the spectrum on this list.  These are high-end resort quality, and 50% thicker than most sheets with similar thread count.

And they donate 10% of our profits to local charities.

Aaaand... want to give your pet a toxin-free life too? Delilah also has organic pet bedding too!

Pact

Pact is a newer entrant to the world of organic sheets.  For years, Pact has been known as a leader in organic cotton apparel, like t-shirts, hoodies, socks and underwear.  Their clothing has always been great, extremely comfortable, and stylish in that low-key, single-color basics way.

Now, PACT has sheets and other bedding and bath towels available too!  Just like with their clothing, Pact uses GOTS certified cotton and produces in fair trade certified factories.

PlushBeds

If you’re not just looking for sheets but are re-doing a bedroom, or need to stock a brand new one, check out Plush Beds.  Plush has great organic sheets, but they also make organic mattresses, bed frames, pillows, toppers and other bedroom supplies too.

The materials in Plush Bed’s products are eco-certified to the hilt: organic cotton and wool are GOTS certified, all wood used is Forest Stewardship Council certified, and their products have achieved Oeko-Tex Standard 100 rating.

Plush Beds mattresses are 100% all-natural latex made from a botanical product that is sustainably tapped from the Hevea brasiliensis tree. The material is both incredibly eco-friendly, and provides superior sleep sensation compared to traditional materials (not to sound cliché, but it’s like floating on a cloud…).  They have free shipping and free returns in the U.S., so you can try out their mattresses for up to 100 nights risk-free and see for yourself if it gives you a better night’s sleep.
