Soap nuts provide an eco-friendly and natural alternative to traditional laundry detergent. Containing saponin, a plant-based detergent used in India for centuries, these soap nut shells absorb water and release natural surfactants that effectively remove dirt, grime, and oils from clothing.

Despite the name, soap nuts are not actually nuts but a relative of the Goji berry, making them safe for those with nut allergies. Used in Ayurvedic medicine for centuries, they are known to soothe eczema and psoriasis, making them an excellent choice for individuals with sensitive skin. Gentle enough for baby clothes, including cloth diapers, these soap nuts offer the most eco-friendly way to clean laundry.

How to Use

A small amount, about 4-6 soap nuts placed in the included unbleached muslin bag, is enough for an entire load of laundry. Unlike conventional detergents, soap nuts produce little to no bubbles and leave a subtle apple cider-like scent. They can be reused several times until they turn gray and mushy, at which point they can be composted. A 4 oz. bag provides approximately 77 loads of laundry at just 11 cents per load.

For additional uses, soap nuts can be ground into a powder and mixed with water to create a natural, chemical-free cleanser. This batch consists of deseeded soap berries, arriving in both whole and broken pieces.
